The Appalachian Elite, in conjunction with the Mid-State Mustangs, will have a post-season 10U program in March of 2019. The goal of this program is to offer the opportunity to prospective new 10U players to receive a sample of the type of player development, training and a high level of competition that Mid-State Mustangs teams are accustomed to.
The program will feature on-ice practices and tournament competition. This will be a nice introduction and preparation for the upcoming Mustangs spring program and the tryouts for 2019-20 regular season that commence in April.
The program will be led by Kris Carlson. Kris has an extensive hockey background with over 35 years of experience spanning from high school, AAA, Junior, College and Professional hockey.
An open skate for interested players will be held on January 16 at 6:00pm at the North Central Recreation Center in Ebensburg.
There will be a $20 fee to participate.

Growing the game we love is successful when you have strong relationships. Over the past year, the Mid-State Mustangs have worked alongside our colleagues with Appalachian Elite Hockey program to continue to grow our programs and ensure the long term viability of providing the quality program that has become a tradition within the Mid-State Mustangs. Through this relationship, we have been able to give local players opportunities at the 14U and 16U levels that otherwise might not have been possible. We are also working together to introduce the next wave of new Mustang players that we hope will wear the uniform for years to come. And lastly, we will be soon introducing a scholarship program that will be introduced to help players and families that are less fortunate the ability to afford the often high cost of playing hockey. Although the logos differ, we are united in our mission to provide the very best hockey opportunities for local players. #strengthinnumbers
Mid-State Mustangs' Alumni Sam Lafferty recently got to get some valuable experience as he played in 2 NHL Preseason games with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Lafferty played on the road on Sept. 19 as the Pens faced the Detroit Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena and then again on Sunday, Sept. 24 against the Red Wings again at PPG Paints Arena. As the game was the annual Free Game for Kids, Lafferty got to play with the support of the entire Altoona Trackers organization that was in attendance for the game. Way to go Sam!!
